Sandy Achterberg

I am a retired art teacher and a fiber artist.  I spent 36 years teaching art students ranging from preschool age through college.  In addition to teaching, I did commissioned fiber pieces for individuals and businesses.  Currently, I volunteer at the John Michael Kohler Art Center and create small fiber pieces.

From an early age I was inspired by my grandmother to enjoy making pieces from fiber; whether it was embroidery, knitting, crocheting or sewing.  As the years passed I added weaving, spinning, felting, quilting and paper-making to my fiber experiences.

My work represents this love I have with fibers and my desire to tell a story.  Some of the pieces called “Books” invite the owner to write in the pieces to tell their “own story”.
